Alpaca farmer Elaine Painter winds alpaca fur around her homemade drop spindle in her farm house on Feb. 23, 2025. “This is a modern-day drop spindle, because I made it out of a CD,” Painter said. “This is one I’ve used to teach people the art of spinning.” Painter has worked as an alpaca farmer for over 30 years, and has collected numerous awards for her alpacas. Painter also holds summer teaching clinics for children in her farm store.
